As climate change and extreme weather events become more disruptive to food production and supply chain operations, WINnERS offers risk management services to build resilient supply chains from the smallholder to the global retailer. By bringing together academics from Imperial College London, the University of Reading, Ecole Polytechnique, and the University of Hamburg, climate scientists are partnering with insurance industry experts and global food buyers to build products and services that protect both food buyers and producers from weather and climate driven risks. WINnERS seeks to build weather and climate resilient agricultural supply chains by modelling weather and climate risk exposure through state-of-the-art technology, investing in smallholder farmers to improve farming practices and credit worthiness, sharing risk across supply chain actors with weather and climate index-based insurance services, and promoting supportive regulatory environments for insurance products in developing countries. Everyone is a “WINnER” when climate risk is shared across the supply chain.
