What we do Willen Hospice supports the growing number of people in our community coping with the devastating impact of a life-limiting illness. We give our patients and their loved ones the highest quality, personalised care – completely free of charge. With compassion and experience, our expert teams help patients who have complex symptoms or needs to make every day the best it can be. Care at home Although many local people know about the Hospice because of our lakeside In-Patient Unit, we only have 15 beds, so the reality is that most of our care happens in the community. 86% of our patients are cared for in the place where they live, by our Willen at Home nurses. Willen at Home is the only service of its kind in Milton Keynes, yet receives no NHS funding. How we’re funded We’re currently one of the most poorly funded hospices in the country. Only 13.8% of our running costs are met by ongoing NHS funding, which is less than half of the average amount provided to hospices nationally. And in neighbouring counties, community services like Willen at Home are entirely paid for by the NHS. Until we get fairer funding from the NHS, we remain dependent on the support and generosity of the local community to provide our life-changing services. Find out more There are so many different ways you can support our cause, from making a donation to volunteering, and from taking part in an overseas challenge to playing our weekly lottery.
