Shelter, Inc.

Shelter, Inc. is a nonprofit organization established in 1975 with the mission of providing community-based, emergency, and longer-term housing for children and adolescents who are abused, neglected, or in need of supervision. The organization is committed to protecting children, strengthening families, and transforming communities, as reflected in its slogan: "Protecting Children, Strengthening Families, Transforming Communities. All children deserve a safe & loving home."

Shelter, Inc. is accredited by the Council on Accreditation and Healthy Families America, licensed by the State of Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, and operates as a non-profit 501 (c)(3) corporation. The organization is supported by a diverse range of sources including townships, United Way, local municipalities, corporations, foundations, private donations, the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, and the Illinois Department of Human Services.

Shelter, Inc.'s vision is for every child to grow up in a safe and loving home, while its mission is to end the cycle of child abuse by providing comprehensive support to children, families, and the community to create safe, healthy, and nurturing homes.

The organization recently received a $2.50K grant investment on 18 April 2024 from the Union Home Mortgage Foundation, indicating continued support and recognition of its critical mission in the education sector.
