Pretrial Justice Institute (PJI)

Pretrial Justice Institute (PJI) is an organization founded in 1977 with the slogan "There is no pretrial justice without racial justice." PJI is dedicated exclusively to pretrial system reform and operates as a bridge between system actors and community members. Their work focuses on co-creating places where all people feel safe, respected, and able to thrive. PJI recognizes the need to shift justice systems away from punitive, harmful policies and practices, instead emphasizing resources that help people heal and live better. With a deep understanding of the criminal justice system, PJI's approach involves collaborating with judges, prosecutors, defense attorneys, and community members, particularly Black and Latinx communities, who have been profoundly impacted. They recognize that powerful and sustained reforms must come from those most deeply harmed by the system. While there is no record of the latest investment or investors, PJI's mission and activities align with the increasing focus on social impact and justice reform in the United States.
