Mermaids

Mermaids is a UK based charity that offers support to transgender and gender variant children and young people, their families and supporting professionals. Founded in 1995, the organization provides helpline and email support services, online forums for parents and teens, training for schools and social services, residential family weekends, local groups at 8 locations nationwide, and engages in campaigning, advocacy, and awareness-raising efforts. Last year, Mermaids supported over 4,000 people and reached over 350 professionals working with young people. The last investment, a £500.00K grant, was received on 19 February 2019 from The National Lottery Community Fund.

Operating in the Education and Healthcare sectors, Mermaids focuses on empowering and educating individuals and families in the transgender and gender non-conforming community. The organization has grown to provide UK-wide support to thousands of families, demonstrating its impact and reach in the field.
