FEMTO-ST Institute

FEMTO-ST Institute is a joint research unit affiliated with the French National Centre of Scientific Research (CNRS), the University of Franche-Comté (UFC), the National School of Mechanical Engineering and Microtechnology (ENSMM), and the Belfort-Montbéliard University of Technology (UTBM). Founded in 2004 through the merger of 5 different laboratories, it covers various fields of engineering science including mechanics, optics, telecommunications, electronics, time-frequency, energetics, and fluidics.

As a part of CNRS, FEMTO-ST belongs to the Institute for Engineering and Systems Sciences (INSIS), emphasizing on scientific excellence and innovation. Recognized for its high standard researches, it received the "Carnot Label" in 2006 for its reliable research with industrial partners. In 2008, the institute expanded its competences in automatic control, microrobotics, materials, surfaces, and energy research. In 2012, the LIFC laboratory joined as the 7th department, further enriching its competences with computer sciences. Currently, FEMTO-ST operates within the education industry.
