Actors'​ Equity Association

Actors'​ Equity Association is the labor union representing American actors and stage managers in the theatre. Founded on May 26, 1913, it has a significant impact on the industry, representing over 51,000 professional Actors and Stage Managers. The organization's mission is to foster the art of live theatre as an essential component of society and advance the careers of its members through negotiations on wages, improving working conditions, and offering a wide range of benefits including health and pension plans.

Equity is governed by its own members through an elected Council, representing principal actors, chorus actors, and stage managers living in three regions: Eastern, Central, and Western. The President of Equity is Kate Shindle, and the Executive Director is Mary McColl. With offices in New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Orlando, the organization has a wide reach.

Actors’ Equity Association plays a pivotal role in the performing arts industry and is a member of the AFL-CIO and affiliated with FIA, an international organization of performing arts unions.
