The Wayne County Airport Authority was established in 2002 by the Michigan State Legislature as an independent agency responsible for the operation of Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) and Willow Run Airport (YIP). Detroit Metro Airport (DTW) is Michigan’s busiest airport, welcoming more than 34 million passengers in 2018 and offering over 1000 daily flights with 13 airlines to and from 120+ destinations on three continents. It boasts state-of-the-art passenger terminals, six jet runways, and an onsite AAA Four-Diamond Westin hotel. In 2020, DTW earned Airports Council International’s (ACI) Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Award for Best Airport by Size and Region (25 to 40 million passengers per year in North America). Willow Run Airport remains an important part of the Southeast Michigan air transportation infrastructure, serving air cargo, general, and corporate aviation. The Airport Authority is entirely self-sustaining and does not receive any tax dollars to support airport operations. The company operates in the Transportation and Travel and Tourism industries.
