Waymade PLC is a pharmaceutical company dedicated to rare diseases. Founded by Vijay and Bhikhu Patel in 1984, the company has experienced substantial growth, with a turnover exceeding £300m at its peak. Beginning as a single chemist's shop in Essex, the business quickly expanded, eventually encompassing a chain of chemist shops, in addition to buying and supplying medicines for hospitals and wholesalers. In 1984, the founders established Waymade Healthcare, followed by the establishment of an international pharmaceutical company, Amdipharm, in 2003. Amdipharm extended its operations to over 100 countries before being acquired by a Private Equity Group in October 2012. Vijay and Bhikhu still maintain an interest in the expanded group. The company's continued evolution led to the establishment of a Family Office, Waymade Capital, overseeing investments across various asset classes, with a primary focus on pharmaceuticals and real estate. Waymade PLC primarily deals in the licensing, sale, and marketing of generic pharmaceutical products under the Sovereign Pharmaceutical brand. Additionally, a new company called Atnahs, formed in November 2013, manages the in-licensing and sale of branded pharmaceuticals in 27 countries. The group has ambitious plans to expand its product range and territories. Overall, the company's journey from a single chemist's shop to a global pharmaceutical presence signifies its potential for continued growth and success in the healthcare and pharmaceutical industries.
