Voice 21 UK is a national oracy education charity, aiming to empower every child to utilize their voice for success in both school and life. The organization works towards transforming learning and life chances through talk, particularly focusing on increasing access to high-quality oracy education for those who need it most.
Research indicates that children's spoken language skills strongly predict their future life chances, but economically disadvantaged students are often significantly behind in language development by the age of five. Voice 21 addresses this gap, which tends to grow rather than diminish as students progress through school.
Despite widespread recognition of the importance of oracy, only a minority of schools consistently prioritize it. This is where Voice 21 makes a difference. Since its launch in 2015, the organization has expanded to work with over 1,200 schools and 10,000 educators across the United Kingdom.
The last investment, a £45.99K grant, was received at 28 February 2019 from Nesta. The organization firmly believes that oracy has been undervalued and overlooked within schools for too long, denying the majority of children opportunities consistently afforded to a privileged few.
