Unterhaltungssoftware Selbstkontrolle USK
Unterhaltungssoftware Selbstkontrolle (USK) is the German abbreviation for the Entertainment Software Self-Regulation Body. Founded in 1994, it is a voluntary organization established by the games industry with the aim of classifying computer and video games in Germany in compliance with the Children and Young Persons Protection Act (JuSchG) as well as online content in accordance with the Youth Media Protection State Agreement (JMStV).
The USK holds the official responsibility for the classification of games distributed on physical media in Germany. At the conclusion of the joint classification procedure, age rating symbols are issued by the relevant state representatives. Moreover, the organization also provides age rating symbols and content descriptors for online games and apps using the international IARC system.
Many companies have recognized the importance of youth protection conformity and have become USK members, emphasizing their commitment to steady cooperation and adherence to youth protection standards.
