TMT International Observatory LLC is an ambitious project with the slogan "Astronomy's Next-Generation Observatory." It aims to revolutionize our understanding of the universe and our place within it. With the potential to be a model observatory, it operates with deep respect for the significance of Maunakea to the community. TIO’s members include California Institute of Technology, University of California, National Institutes of Natural Sciences of Japan, Department of Science and Technology of India, and National Research Council of Canada. The Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation has been a major contributor to the initiative. The National Science Foundation, under Cooperative Agreement No. 2331108, has also provided funding for recent design and development work.
