Tirana International Airport has experienced significant growth since its inception in 2005 as part of a consortium including HOCHTIEF AirPort, DEG Deutsche Investitions- und Entwicklungsgesellschaft, and the Albanian-American Enterprise Fund. The airport, also known as Tirana International Airport Nënë Tereza, has shown impressive passenger numbers, reaching 3.33 million in 2019 before experiencing a slight decrease due to the Covid-19 pandemic. However, the airport has surpassed its 2019 passenger numbers in August 2022, with current figures standing at 4.2 million. It is forecasted to reach 5 million passengers by the end of 2022. In December 2020, the Kastrati Group SHA acquired 100% of the share capital, and in March 2021, the Concession Period was extended to 2040 with a planned investment of 100 million € by Kastrati Group. This indicates a strong commitment to the airport's continued development and success.
