The Mersey Forest

The Mersey Forest is a North Cheshire and Merseyside-based initiative with a mission to get #morefromtrees. Established in 1991, it has been fostering the growth of woodlands and green spaces for over 20 years. The project originated in the early 1990s when 12 areas in England were selected for extensive tree planting programs to enhance the local environment for the well-being of communities, wildlife, and the economy. The Mersey Forest, spanning more than 500 square miles, is the largest of these designated Community Forest areas. Over the years, The Mersey Forest Partnership has successfully planted in excess of 8 million trees, equivalent to five new trees for every resident in the Forest area. This 'more from trees' approach has received commendation as a "visionary concept" for its multitude of environmental, health, and economic advantages.
