South West Mayo Development Company

South West Mayo Development Company (SWMDC) is an established integrated rural development company based in Ireland, delivering social, economic, and community support. Founded in 1991, SWMDC is a community-owned and volunteer-led Local Development Company (LDC).

SWMDC has played a pivotal role in the local, rural, community development, and social inclusion sectors in Mayo for over three decades. The company currently employs 52 people and has created additional employment opportunities for 450 people through social employment schemes.

Initially focused on rural and community development, SWMDC has expanded its geographical remit to cover all of County Mayo and parts of Roscommon and Galway. The company has diversified its areas of work to include social inclusion and employment/activation.

Through its initiatives, SWMDC has provided training, capacity building, animation, investment, and project development, benefiting communities, enterprises, and individuals across Mayo and the wider western region.
