South Alabama Land Trust

South Alabama Land Trust is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving land and promoting environmental education in coastal Alabama. Established in 1990, the organization has been actively involved in conservation efforts, primarily focused on protecting the pristine coastal area of Baldwin County, Alabama. With the support of over 550 members, generous donors, and event sponsors, the trust has successfully safeguarded more than 9,500 acres of coastline in Baldwin and Mobile counties through a combination of conservation easements, land donations, and purchases. Notably, all protected land is safeguarded from potential development, ensuring it remains wild forever. The organization is nationally accredited and works in collaboration with the Weeks Bay Reserve to protect the crucial wetlands that serve as the interface between the coastline and the Mobile and Weeks bays. This dedication to preserving the region's ecological health extends to the acquisition and protection of critical habitats, including bogs, marshes, and estuaries. Additionally, the Weeks Bay Foundation has independently secured over 7,000 acres of coastline in Baldwin County, further amplifying the impact of conservation efforts.
