Smart Surfaces Coalition

The Smart Surfaces Coalition is a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting cities in rethinking their surfaces to effectively address climate change, equity, heat, flooding, and livability. Founded in 2019, the coalition collaborates with over 40 leading NGOs in sectors crucial for driving the acceleration of urban smart surface adoption, including architecture and design, city law and policy, energy, equity/low-income, and urban data analytics.

The coalition's mission is to facilitate the global adoption of Smart Surfaces by providing analytical tools, training, data, research, and support to influence city policies. These smart surfaces encompass various environmentally friendly elements such as green, reflective, and porous surfaces, urban trees, and solar photovoltaics. By implementing smart surface policies, cities can significantly reduce emissions, lower peak summer temperatures, and decrease pollution while simultaneously creating jobs and enhancing competitiveness.
