Signal Cleveland is a nonprofit newsroom founded in 2022 with the mission to provide trustworthy local journalism to Greater Cleveland communities. The organization not only produces authoritative daily journalism covering government, economy, education, health, and safety but also fosters community engagement. The innovative approach of engaging 600 Cleveland residents through Cleveland Documenters who are trained and paid to cover public meetings ensures diverse and comprehensive coverage across almost every ZIP code in the region. With a strong online presence, including a website filled with explainers and guides, Signal Cleveland acts as a vital source of information and a civic tool for the city. The extensive reach and impact are further amplified through community meetings, trainings, and daily presence in Cleveland communities. The latest milestone for Signal Cleveland was the $7.50M grant investment received on 15th November 2022 from an impressive group of investors, including American Journalism Project, THE CHAR AND CHUCK FOWLER FAMILY FOUNDATION, Sisters of Charity Foundation of Cleveland, Saint Luke's Foundation, the Visible Voice Charitable Fund, The Cleveland Foundation, Knight Foundation, and the Center for Community Solutions. This investment not only validates the value of Signal Cleveland's mission but also provides the necessary resources to further expand its impact and reach within the local community.
