Share&Charge Foundation

Share&Charge Foundation is a non-profit organization focused on curating the Open Charging Network for the next level of OCPI-based e-Roaming. Founded in 2016, the foundation aims to facilitate open innovation for an enhanced electric vehicle charging experience. Through collaboration with industry members in the E-Mobility sector, it fosters the development of the Open Charging Network, designed to simplify digital connections based on the Open Charge Point Interface (OCPI) protocol while ensuring security and cost-efficiency.

The foundation has achieved several significant milestones on its journey towards a seamless and smart charging world. In Q2/2017, Share&Charge 1.0 went live as the first global EV charging solution on the public Ethereum blockchain. Subsequently, the Oslo2Rome Pilot Project 1.0 Tour across Europe in Q4/2017 demonstrated seamless access to charge points across different countries via a blockchain network. In Q3/2018, Share&Charge successfully developed and tested a fully open-source and decentralized charging network based on blockchain technology. During Q4/2018, the foundation was established as a non-profit entity in Switzerland, with the primary purpose of curating the development of its technology, attracting the first partners to join the foundation.

In Q1/2019, Share&Charge technology was utilized for machine-to-machine payment in combination with the EV charging standard ISO 15118 through an In-Car Wallet Pilot. The Q3/2019 marked a crucial milestone with the public availability of the decentralized Open Charging Network, offering a simple, secure, and cost-efficient charging experience for the Electric Vehicle charging community. Finally, in Q1/2020, the Open Charging Network was launched, paving the way for smart charging capabilities in Q3/2020.
