Sasakawa Africa Association (SAA) is an international agricultural development non-governmental organization founded in 1986 by Nobel Laureate Dr. Norman Borlaug, Japanese philanthropist Ryoichi Sasakawa (Nippon Foundation), and former US President Jimmy Carter. The organization's focus is on improving the productivity and income of smallholder farmers in sub-Saharan Africa through the adoption of cost-effective agricultural technologies and practices. SAA operates in four focus countries – Ethiopia, Nigeria, Mali, and Uganda, working with national partners to implement agricultural programs that align with its key pillars: Regenerative Agriculture, Nutrition-Sensitive Agriculture, and Market Oriented Agriculture.
