Recircle is a waste management company that remanufactures plastic waste into consumer and industrial products via our semi-industrial shredder, decontamination, injection, and extrusion machines. Recircle differs from traditional recycling methods in that all plastic waste is kept local. Recircle executes a cradle-to-cradle strategy by providing a new raw material (decontaminated plastic flakes), that otherwise would go straight to landfill, for other companies, manufacturers, and extruders; creating a circular economy. In other words, the collection, sorting, decontaminating, and remanufacturing of plastic waste is managed in the community it is consumed in. Piloting at St. Francis Xavier University (StFX), Recircle aims to divert plastic waste from landfills and oceans by creating a value-recovery system that empowers StFX to manage its own plastic waste. This community-based solution to recycling does not yet exist in Canada and we hope to implement this solution in other academic institutions and communities in Canada.
