Established in 1975 and run by the second-generation sons Con, President; Tod, Vice President; and Brandon Squire, Executive Vice President, the company has witnessed remarkable growth. It has expanded its operations to encompass larger and more complex projects, including design-build, Construction Management / General Contractor, and traditional design-bid-build projects across the western states.

In 2009, the company was acquired by Sterling Construction Company based in Houston, Texas. This strategic acquisition has facilitated enhanced market share for all Sterling subsidiaries, spanning Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Minnesota, Montana, Nevada, Texas, Washington, and Wyoming. Sterling stands at 91 on the ENR Top 400 Contractors list, 16 among the Top 20 Transportation Contractors, and 15 among the Top 50 Domestic Contractors for 2010. Despite the acquisition, Con, Brandon, and Tod continue to lead Ralph L. Wadsworth Construction, ensuring the continuation of the company's growth and innovation.
