Radio Free Asia (RFA) is a private, nonprofit news corporation established in 1996 with the mission of providing accountability, answers, and empowerment to audiences in regions where state-controlled and -influenced media are predominant. RFA delivers uncensored, in-depth journalism to areas with limited access to alternative news sources. With broadcasts in nine Asian languages – including Mandarin, Tibetan, Burmese, Vietnamese, Korean, Lao, Khmer, Cantonese, and Uyghur – RFA aims to reach diverse populations in the region. Moreover, the organization operates websites offering original news content in nine Asian languages, in addition to English and several other dialects. Notably, RFA receives funding through an annual grant from the United States Agency for Global Media. This innovative approach to providing independent news coverage in regions with limited media freedom positions RFA as a significant player in the effort to promote free and unbiased information dissemination.
