PrePex is a pioneering non-surgical medical device specifically designed for adult male circumcision, and it is integral to the comprehensive HIV prevention strategy in Sub-Saharan Africa. Scientific validation demonstrates that circumcised men can reduce their risk of HIV infection by 60% to 70%. Consequently, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) recommended in 2007 that voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC) be offered in regions with high prevalence of heterosexually transmitted HIV and low prevalence of male circumcision. To support this initiative, UNAIDS, WHO, The United States President's Emergency Plan For AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and the World Bank jointly announced an accelerated plan to scale up VMMC to approximately 20 million men in 13 target countries in Sub-Saharan Africa by the end of 2015, potentially saving 3.4 million lives and US$16.5 billion due to averted treatment and care costs. In alignment with this global effort, Circ MedTech developed the PrePex device to enable safe, simple, scalable, and cost-effective non-surgical adult male circumcision as a pivotal component of the comprehensive HIV prevention plan. The venture received significant Venture Round investment at 07 July 2011, with participation from Acumen and PanAfrican Investment Co.
