Politeknik Negeri Semarang is an educational institution committed to providing quality education. Established in 1976 with the assistance of the World Bank, it is one of six polytechnics founded in accordance with the Directorate General of Higher Education Decree No. 03/Dj/Kep/1979. This establishment followed the existence of the Swiss Manufacturing Polytechnic and ITB, which were founded in 1976.
Initially named Politeknik Universitas Diponegoro, the institution opened with three departments: Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Electrical Engineering. Over time, it expanded to include the Department of Commerce (in 1985) and transformed the Electrical Engineering Department into the Departments of Electrical Engineering and Electronics/Telecommunications.
Following the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia Decree No. 313/O/1991 dated 6 June 1991 for the Structure of Polytechnics within the State University and Institute, a restructuring of departments and study programs was carried out. The institution became autonomous under the name Politeknik Negeri Semarang (Polines) based on the Ministry's Decree No. 175/O/1997 dated 6 August 1997.
