Pioneer Theatre Company

Pioneer Theatre Company is Utah's premier professional theatre company in residence at the University of Utah. It is the only major regional theatre in Salt Lake, offering a fully professional seven-show season from September through May. The productions consist of a mix of classics, large-scale musicals, contemporary dramas, and comedies. Over the past decade, Pioneer Theatre Company has gained recognition for its Broadway-quality productions, including the Utah premieres and regional theatre premieres of various shows. In 2006-2007, Pioneer Theatre Company made history by becoming the first regional theatre in the U.S. to secure the rights to produce Les Misérables, which became a record-breaking success with 82 sold-out performances. In 2022, the company produced the Broadway-bound musical Shucked, directed by three-time Tony Award winner Jack O’Brien and written by the Grammy and Tony Award-winning team of Robert Horn, Shane McAnally, and Brandy Clark. The world premiere in fall 2022 led to nine Tony Award nominations, marking the first time a Utah-based theatre served as an out-of-town tryout for a Broadway musical. Pioneer Theatre Company has been at the forefront of bringing high-quality productions to Utah's audiences while also serving as a launchpad for Broadway-bound shows.
