Ocean Tracking Network

The Ocean Tracking Network (OTN) is a global aquatic research, data management, and partnership platform headquartered at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Since its establishment in 2008, OTN has been dedicated to informing the stewardship and sustainable management of aquatic animals by providing knowledge on their movements, habitats, and survival in the face of changing global environments. The company has been deploying acoustic and satellite tagging systems, oceanographic monitoring equipment, and marine autonomous vehicles (gliders) in key ocean locations and inland waters globally, with continuous expansion of technical capabilities. Recently, OTN has received a $38.50M grant investment from the Canada Foundation for Innovation on 19 August 2022. The company's mission is centered around leveraging new technologies to understand oceans and connected freshwater systems, along with the life that moves within them. These technologies not only provide a window into the underwater world but also create and sustain global networks through the management, sharing, and visualization of the acquired information. With its slogan, "OTN and its collaborators are tracking aquatic animals, connecting people, and transforming global oceans management," OTN aims to revolutionize the way we perceive and manage marine life and ecosystems on a global scale.
