Oakhurst Recovery Program (ORP) is a profound initiative that has been restoring hope in recovery for homeless men battling drug or alcohol addiction for over 25 years. The program offers free, long-term residential treatment and focuses on addressing the underlying causes of chemical dependence while considering the impact on emotional, intellectual, and spiritual wellbeing. Staffed by counselors who have overcome addiction themselves, the program incorporates art therapy, yoga, and companionship into daily activities, creating a supportive and accepting atmosphere. The board of directors, including community members and program graduates, guides the organization’s strategy, finances, and therapies.

With a capacity for 10 men, ORP provides individualized plans promoting growth and positive life changes. The aim is for clients to become introspective, humble, and honest as they reclaim their life stories, celebrating their unique worth and achieving clean and sober, employed, and independent lives upon completion of the program.

2020 brought new challenges with the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic, emphasizing the dire need for ORP’s services within the homeless community. The program not only continued therapy for recovery but also provided safe housing and medical care, serving as a safety net during a time when the homeless population was particularly vulnerable to the virus.
