Nueces Electric Cooperative (NEC) is a customer-owned electric cooperative founded in 1938. Based in South Texas, NEC is an innovative player in the electric industry, being the only deregulated cooperative in the state of Texas and one of few in the nation. Notably, NEC holds contracts with the Navy and owns and maintains power lines for Naval Air Station Corpus Christi and Naval Air Station Kingsville. With it's extensive 3,200 miles of power lines and a customer base of over 19,000 electric meters across eight South Texas counties, NEC is a major player in the area's energy landscape. As the parent company for NEC Co-op Energy, the cooperative also operates as a competitive retail electric provider, emphasizing its commitment to its member-owners and the local community. NEC's non-profit status ensures that margins are channeled back to members as annual bill credits rather than being retained as profit. The company stands as a testament to sustainable growth and community-driven utility services in Texas, reflecting its dedicated mission to serve and benefit its members.
