North West Redwater Partnership (NWRP) is a Canadian refinery that stands out as the world’s first bitumen refinery consciously integrated with carbon capture and storage. The facility, founded in 2011, endeavors to address North America’s energy demands by converting Alberta’s bitumen into cleaner, high-value diesel and related products.
With the groundbreaking in 2013, NWRP witnessed a peak construction phase involving over 8,500 workers daily, in addition to numerous jobs in engineering firms and fabrication shops. Since December 2017, the refinery has been producing diesel and other products as part of Phase One, designed to process approximately 79,000 barrels per day of diluted bitumen from Alberta’s oil sands into revenue-generating products like ultra-low sulfur diesel, vacuum gas oil, diluent, and natural gas liquids.
NWRP operates as a 50/50 partnership between Canadian Natural Resources Limited and the Alberta Petroleum Marketing Commission, with a mission to maximize the value of processing bitumen into energy products safely and responsibly. Embracing values of integrity, respect, trust, and results, the company strives to contribute to the well-being of its partners, customers, and Alberta.
The industry segments of NWRP span across Energy, Industrial, and Oil and Gas, reflecting the diverse scope of its operations. As the company continues its operations, it presents an intriguing avenue for potential investors and partners seeking to engage with a forward-thinking player in the energy sector.
