The National Yiddish Book Center is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and celebrating Yiddish and other modern Jewish books. Since its founding in 1980, the Center has played a significant role in establishing Yiddish collections at prominent libraries worldwide, such as Harvard, Yale, Library of Congress, and others. The Steven Spielberg Digital Yiddish Library, initiated in 1998, made high-quality reprints accessible on demand and later provided free online access to the full texts of 11,000 Yiddish titles through the Digital Yiddish Library. In September 2017, the center received a grant investment of $1.11M from the Jim Joseph Foundation. The organization's headquarters, set in a lively 37,000-square-foot space in Amherst, Massachusetts, features an open Yiddish book repository, theaters, art galleries, and museum exhibitions centered on Yiddish language and culture. This unique space serves as a vibrant tribute to the richness of Yiddish literature and culture, making it more accessible and safer than ever before.
