Moulinot Compost & Biogaz
Moulinot Compost & Biogaz is a Solidarity Company of Social Utility (ESUS) that focuses on creating high-quality compost and energy from food waste. The founder, Stephan Martinez, who grew up in the kitchens of Parisian restaurants, identified the widespread issue of food waste being buried or incinerated due to the lack of sorting and specific collection processes. This realization led to the founding principle of Moulinot: "That which comes from the earth must return to the earth." In 2007, Martinez became a master composter and pioneered the use of earthworms to transform food waste, inspiring others to follow suit.
Launched in 2013, Moulinot Compost & Biogaz provides a tailor-made ESS solution to help the catering industry comply with regulations to transform food waste. The company's solution aligns with the circular economy and Sustainable Development through customized sorting solutions, environmentally friendly waste collection, and transformation of food waste into compost and energy.
As of 2017, the transformation of 6,000 tons of collected food waste yielded 350,000 m3 of biogas and 5,500 tons of fertilizer. Currently employing 22 individuals, the company aims to scale up by 2020, with goals to employ 50 people, collect 50,000 tons of food waste, create career pathways, and expand to other regions.
The company received a €1.30M Venture Round investment on 21 November 2017 from investors including INCO, France Active, and Le Comptoir de l'Innovation. With its innovative approach and positive environmental impact, Moulinot Compost & Biogaz presents a promising investment opportunity in the sustainable waste management sector.
