The Medical Benevolent Association of NSW-ACT (MBA NSW-ACT) has been offering specialized counselling and financial assistance to support doctors through any life crisis since 1896. As a registered ACNC charitable organization, it provides free, non-judgmental, and confidential services to medical practitioners and their families in the ACT and NSW during times of crisis, illness, impairment, or grief. In addition to specialized counselling and case management support, the organization also offers financial assistance with the aim of assisting the eventual return to independence and wellbeing of the doctor or family member. It also provides preventative services and workshops covering the issues impacting doctors' health. The organization is supported by an experienced Executive Officer and an elected Council of 14-16 volunteer doctors from a variety of medical backgrounds.
MBA NSW-ACT is not a crisis center, but it is open during normal office hours and provides prompt assistance and appointments. The organization encourages concerned colleagues, supervisors, family members, and friends of doctors to seek assistance. Donations to support the mission of MBA NSW-ACT are also welcomed and are tax deductible, with a tax receipt issued promptly.
