Founded in 1910 by journalist and politician Henri Bourassa, the company operates across multiple platforms including mobile, print, tablet, and web. It prides itself on retaining complete independence, a principle set forth by its founder, that it has upheld for over a century.

Initially established as a combative journal, Le Devoir has transitioned into the format of an informative newspaper, following the North American tradition. The company is dedicated to championing ideas and causes that will advance the political, economic, cultural, and social landscape of Quebec.

In June 2016, the company received a $125.00K Venture Round investment from Fondaction.
