Kemijski inštitut - National Institute of Chemistry is a research and science institution with 75 years of tradition based in Slovenia. Its fields of activity include research, education, and cooperation with industry. The research conducted at the institute is oriented towards various fields such as biotechnology, environmental protection, structural and theoretical chemistry, analytical chemistry, materials research, and chemical engineering, aligning with the needs of the domestic chemical, pharmaceutical, tire, and food industries. In addition, the Institute's work is in line with the priority thematic areas of the EU Research and Innovation programme Horizon 2020, emphasizing genomics, biotechnology for health, nanotechnology, food safety, nutrition, sustainable development, and global change.
The institute is currently involved in educating 74 graduate students through the national Young Researchers Program, representing about 25% of the Institute's staff members, making it one of the leading Slovenian organizations for graduate-level education and training. Moreover, research at the Institute is focused on the development of new technologies and products, essential for the long-term development of Slovenia and internationally relevant. The institute collaborates closely with domestic and international companies, contributing significantly to its income, with 20% of its income stemming from industry cooperation.
