The International Rhino Foundation (IRF), founded in 1993, is dedicated to the protection and conservation of all five living rhino species. Initially established as the International Black Rhino Foundation to combat the poaching crisis in Zimbabwe, the organization expanded its mission to encompass the broader threats facing rhinos globally. IRF's programs include initiatives in Indonesia, India, Zimbabwe, and Southern Africa, where it focuses on protecting threatened rhino populations and their habitats, as well as supporting research and conservation efforts. With around 900 individual members, as well as support from zoos, private foundations, corporations, and government agencies, the organization receives financial backing from a diverse range of entities. Governed by a dedicated Board of Directors, the IRF benefits from the generous contributions of individuals who volunteer their time and resources to further its mission of "Keeping the Five Alive." The organization's focus on both protecting rhinos in the wild and supporting scientific research makes it a key player in the conservation and preservation of these iconic species.
