Instituto Pedro Nunes

Instituto Pedro Nunes is a non-profit private organization founded in 1991, serving as the main link between the University of Coimbra and the business sector in Portugal. With a team of nearly 100 permanent staff, IPN focuses on promoting innovation and technology transfer through three main areas: incubation and acceleration of technology-based enterprises, research and technological development, and highly specialized training. Its incubation and acceleration activities have facilitated the successful establishment and early-stage development of startups, attaining international recognition such as the 1st place in the world award for "Best Science-Based Incubator" in 2010. The statistics reflecting its impact are impressive, including support for over 380 firms, with over 70% in activity, an annual aggregated turnover of over 222 million euros in 2019, and job creation of over 3,250 direct and highly qualified positions. Additionally, IPN has been actively engaged in research and technological development, participating in over 200 RTD projects, executing technology transfer contracts, and contributing to the patenting of products for a group of more than 200 companies. Its technological infrastructure encompasses 6 laboratories in diversified technological areas. The organization's self-sustained business model underscores its significant contribution to fostering entrepreneurship, innovation, and technology advancement in Portugal.
