Institute of Search & Technical Rescue (InSTR) is a professional body with the primary goal of promoting excellence in the fields of Search and Technical Rescue. Established in 2013 as a not-for-profit organization, it aims to enhance service delivery and elevate standards within the search and technical rescue domains by encouraging critical reflection, learning, and informal peer exchanges. InSTR was founded by members of the search and technical rescue communities and prides itself on boasting a membership base covering four continents. The institute curates a library of relevant publications, academic studies, and papers for the benefit of its members.
With a focus on personal and team development, InSTR offers accredited examinations from technician to degree level, underpinned by a system of Continuing Professional Development (CPD). It also plays a pivotal role in driving technological advancements by collaborating with industry players in the UK and abroad while maintaining its independence. The institute provides professional recognition for members and organizations from diverse backgrounds and sets standards for personal behavior, development, and professional conduct, to which all members must adhere.
Aligned with the Privacy and Security sector, InSTR aims to further the interests of the search and technical rescue communities by offering representation and advice to government, local authorities, the media, and other organizations as needed.
