IBGE

Historically, Brazil's statistical activities began with the General Directorate of Statistics in 1871. Over time, responsibilities shifted among various bodies until the creation of the National Statistics Institute (INE) in 1934, which later incorporated the Brazilian Geography Council and was then renamed IBGE. As an entity under the Ministry of Planning, Budget, and Management, IBGE operates through four boards and two central organs.
