Housing Opportunities Made Equal (HOME) Overview
Housing Opportunities Made Equal (HOME) is a non-profit corporation advocating for open housing markets in Greater Cincinnati. Established in 1959 as the Greater Cincinnati Committee for Equal Opportunities in Housing, HOME became Housing Opportunities Made Equal of Greater Cincinnati, Inc. (HOME) with the passage of the Fair Housing Act in 1968. Focused on eliminating illegal discrimination, HOME provides counseling for home seekers, gathers evidence, and collaborates with attorneys to bring cases to light. With the Supreme Court Havens decision in 1982, HOME gained the ability to bring cases in its own name. Additionally, HOME carries out an active education program, working with real estate professionals and landlords to ensure compliance with the law. Following the amendment of the Fair Housing Act in 1988, HOME extended its services to include protections for individuals with disabilities and families with children. The organization also sponsors a free Housing Mediation Service in partnership with the Apartment Association to resolve disputes. During the foreclosure crisis from 2007 to 2012, HOME offered a foreclosure prevention program and later introduced a Tenant Advocacy program to aid families in staying in their homes. In 2013, HOME received a grant from the Greater Cincinnati Foundation to provide targeted Tenant Advocacy to an inner-city elementary school, aiming to reduce the disruptive impact of constant moves on children's education.
Industry and HeadquartersHOME operates in the real estate sector, emphasizing fair and open housing practices. The organization is based in the United States.
