HMT Limited, incorporated as “Hindustan Machine Tools” at Bengaluru on 7th February 1953, and popularly known as “HMT”, is a Central Public Sector Enterprise of the Government of India. It operates under the Department of Heavy Industry, Ministry of Heavy Industries. HMT has been a flagship of India’s industrial progress since independence, providing reliable solutions to major strategic sectors and 'Driving Growth through Technology.'

HMT Limited is a Holding Company with two operative subsidiaries, HMT Machine Tools Limited and HMT (International) Limited. The businesses of Food Processing Machinery and Watches are directly managed by the Holding Company. HMT Machine Tools provides general purpose and multipurpose CNC Machine Tools, as well as special purpose and specific technology machines to meet the requirements of strategic sectors like Defence, Railways, Nuclear, Space, Aerospace, Naval, and Auto. The Company has manufacturing units at Bengaluru, Pinjore, Kalamassery, Hyderabad (2), and Ajmer.

HMT (International), incorporated in 1974 as a wholly owned subsidiary of HMT Limited, caters to the export markets of HMT’s products and has implemented turnkey engineering projects in various countries. It has also created a niche in setting up Vocational Training Centres, Entrepreneurial Training Centres, Skill Development Centres, etc. on a turnkey basis.
