Hijos Del Sol Arts Productions

Hijos Del Sol Arts Productions is a nonprofit organization that provides a free youth art studio in E. Salinas, open five days a week for young artists. Their mission is to empower youth through accessible arts experiences that foster creativity, emotional well-being, and skill development. The organization operates as an experimental arts collective, offering resources and space for young artists to flourish. Their programs include a Traveling Experimental Arts Studio, Pop-Up Experimental Arts Workshops, Community-produced Murals, Apprenticeships/Social Enterprises, and Cultural Events with Arts Exhibits such as Día de Muertos, A Toda Madre, and Garabatos. Established in 1994 by Native American and Latino migrant artists, Hijos del Sol has received a $50,000 grant investment from the Latino Community Foundation in August 2023. The organization addresses critical community issues in East Salinas, an area ranking in the lowest quartile of the California Healthy Places Index. It provides a haven where youth can safely express themselves, fostering creativity and emotional well-being. With their emphasis on mutual respect and co-creation, they aim to build a sense of community among participants. Hijos del Sol has been recognized by colleagues, officials, and the community for its impactful programming, rooted in providing accessible arts experiences for youth.
