Helmholtz AI is a research-driven hub for applied AI, aiming to enable the efficient and agile development and implementation of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning assets across the whole Helmholtz Association, Germany’s largest research organization. Structured as a hub-and-spoke model with six units across the Helmholtz Association, Helmholtz AI's ambition is to tackle major challenges and pressing issues facing society. Launched in March 2019 and led by Professor Fabian Theis from Helmholtz Zentrum München, the organization offers democratized access to AI/ML-based tools in an open and dynamic community. The organization's units host Research Groups and consultant teams representing the six research fields of the Helmholtz Association. Overall, Helmholtz AI is at the forefront of applied AI, combining unique research questions, data, and expertise with democratized access to new tools, with a vision to develop sustainable solutions for tomorrow and beyond.
