GS1 Singapore is a not-for-profit organization founded in 1987 and has since become the sole authority in Singapore authorized to issue GS1 Barcodes. The organization implements and administers the global multi-industry GS1 standards-based system of automatic identification, using barcodes, 2D codes, and RFID. With a network of 116 GS1 member organizations around the world and over 2 million member companies in 155 countries, GS1 standards are integral to daily business operations, facilitating over 10 billion scanning transactions daily globally, including capturing over $5 billion in sales at retail point-of-sale terminals in Singapore.
GS1 Singapore's identification numbers and barcodes enable seamless order, tracking, tracing, delivery, and payment for goods across the supply chain globally, irrespective of the organization's size. The GS1 System, developed by user companies under the guidance of the GS1 Global Office, is recognized by the International Standards Organization (ISO), the European Standardization Committee (CEN), and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
With over 3,000 member companies across various sectors, GS1 Singapore collaborates with organizations and public agencies for the widespread adoption of standards, enhancing the competitiveness, operational efficiencies, and supply chain management capabilities of Singaporean companies.
