Groupmuse is a worker-owned and musician-owned cooperative founded in 2013 with the mission of bringing live music to living rooms. The platform organizes house concert parties, known as "groupmuses," hosted in people's living rooms. With over 1,000 groupmuses in 13 cities throughout the USA and abroad, Groupmuse has garnered substantial media attention, being featured in prominent outlets such as The New York Times, Time Magazine, and NPR.
In response to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Groupmuse pivoted to online concerts streamed from musicians' homes in March 2020. The Groupmuse Foundation was launched in September 2020 to provide direct support to musicians in need of training, tech, and technology to stay connected with audiences during the pandemic.
The Groupmuse community comprises both musicians and audiences who come together in real life and online for warm and intimate musical experiences. Notably, in January 2021, Groupmuse transitioned to a worker-owned cooperative. Furthermore, in October 2021, 10 musician-owners joined the cooperative, transforming Groupmuse into a multistakeholder cooperative.
Groupmuse operates within the music industry and is based in the United States.
