Grand Rapids Ballet is Michigan's only professional ballet company, founded in 1972. With the slogan "Lifting the human spirit through the art of dance," the company has seen an exciting transformation under the artistic direction of former San Francisco Ballet dancer, James Sofranko. This has attracted world-class dancers, produced creative works in contemporary dance, and gained local, national, and international attention. The company consists of over 30 professional dancers from the United States and around the world, rehearsing in its own Meijer-Royce Center for Dance and performing at Peter Martin Wege Theatre in the heart of Grand Rapids. Additionally, the company includes a ballet school offering classes for ages 3 and up, as well as a Junior Company providing high-quality dance instruction and nurturing environment for students.
