Foundation for Public Code

The Foundation for Public Code is a Netherlands-based organization dedicated to helping public organizations develop and maintain software and policy simultaneously, with the aim of providing higher quality, cost-effective services for the public. Their focus on open source software for and by public organizations, along with the necessary policy and guidance for reusability, is outlined in their approach. Their work is carried out through codebase stewardship, where they facilitate the sharing and maintenance of proven software solutions, and the Standard for Public Code, which provides a model for open source solutions and includes guidance for various stakeholders. Their ultimate goal is to create an ecosystem of open public-purpose software and policy. Established in 2019, the Foundation for Public Code continues to maintain, manage, contribute to, and grow this ecosystem to support the improvement of cities by governments, communities, and citizens.
