Overview: Established in 1991, the Forest Fire Lookout Association (FFLA) is dedicated to researching and preserving forest fire lookout sites, ground cabins, and early fire detection methods. The organization advocates for the protection, appreciation, and understanding of lookout structures while encouraging the restoration efforts of public groups and chapters within the organization.

What We Do: FFLA has played a pivotal role in various aspects related to Fire Lookouts since its inception. This includes organizing lookout restorations, providing grants for lookout projects, documenting lookout sites, conducting historical research, and promoting lookout awareness through programs. The organization also compiles anecdotes of lookout operators, both past and present.

Events and Activities: FFLA hosts biannual conferences in the eastern and western United States and Canada, along with an annual Board of Directors meeting and periodic state chapter meetings. The organization issues a membership benefit, Lookout Network, a quarterly newsletter. With chapters across most states, as well as in Western Australia and Canada, FFLA receives correspondence from almost all fifty states.

Membership: Comprising lookout enthusiasts, hikers, conservationists, forest fire personnel, foresters, storytellers, and environmental community members, FFLA upholds a diverse membership base dedicated to the cause of preserving and celebrating forest fire lookout heritage.
