Electricite du Laos (EDL) is a state-owned corporation operating under the Ministry for Energy and Mines, holding a pivotal role in Lao PDR’s energy sector. With a founding date of 1961, EDL has been at the forefront of energy generation, transmission, and distribution. The company also oversees the management of electricity imports and exports within the country, emphasizing its influence and authoritative position within the sector.

As a key player in project development, EDL has actively participated in the implementation of government hydropower projects and has served as the implementing agency. Moreover, in Independent Power Producer (IPP) projects, EDL functions as the Government’s shareholder. Notably, the company's last investment was a Private Equity Round at the beginning of 2011, with Leopard Capital as the investor.
