Deutsche Funkturm GmbH (DFMG) is a key player in the development of infrastructure for German mobile network operators, broadcasters, operators of radio relays, and the radio networks of authorities and other institutions. Founded in 2002 as a subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom, DFMG has had the U.S. company DigitalBridge and Canada's Brookfield as additional shareholders since 2023.
With a portfolio of around 34,600 antenna sites in Germany, DFMG is the largest operator of radio infrastructure in the country. The company, headquartered in Münster, operates throughout Germany and offers a full range of services including the acquisition, planning, realization, operation, and marketing of radio sites. Its portfolio includes towers, masts, rooftop sites, distributed antenna systems (DAS), and small cells, with a focus on LTE and 5G.
In a significant achievement, DFMG played a pivotal role in the development of the European Aviation Network (EAN), the world's first radio network for airplanes that combines satellite communication and LTE. The company acquired, planned, and built the entire ground-based network with about 300 transmitting stations in 30 European countries.
As a major contributor to the development of infrastructure for mobile communications providers in Germany, DFMG's partnership with prominent shareholders and its strategic focus on emerging technologies positions it as a noteworthy player in the telecom industry.
